Now that the Animal Crossing Switch is in the mix, there’s 289 possible color options for Joy-Con

There has to be someone in the world who will own them all, right? In case you missed it,there’s a newAnimal CrossingSwitch. Not a Switch Lite! In other words: you can snap off those Joy-Con and mix and match to your heart’s content to create new color combos. And man, are there a lot. Reddit user Link2Sora did the math, it’s 289 combinations. Yikes! Given that Joy-Con are still really expensive ($80 MSRP with the chance they’ll drift is too rich for my blood to just collect them) it’ll be really tough to collect them all, especially since some of them are linked to hardware bundles or limited-time sales....

Oh boy, Akiba’s Beat’s English dub is atrocious

So, can you move? Uru, Karen. Here I was starting to think people take game roles more seriously when this newAkiba’s Beatstory trailer came along and slapped me in the face. Its predecessor,Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed, also had a pathetic English dub, but since it was dual-audio I just played with Japanese audio. Looks like that’s what we’ll have to do with this one as well. Seriously, even kids could do a better job....

Our last Daily Spelunk

One final Daily Spelunky Challenge! Over the weekend, we posted the final episode ofThe Daily Spelunk, and you can view it here if you like. It’s a delightful romp and a hefty send-off to one of my favorite projects we’ve done on the site. As you may have noticed in this episode and the prior one, we’ve been using some custom sprites of Jordan and myself in the show. If you would like to use these sprites yourself for some inexplicable reason, I’m making them available here....

Pikmin: The Musical is a sugary sweet leotard-fest

It’s like the Rent movie, except it’s not awful I don’t like most fan made videos about live action videogame characters. I also don’t like most musicals. That’s why it’s so strange that have ended up enjoying more than one fan made musical about live action videogame characters. First it wasStreet Fighter High: The Musical, and now this. That makes two! Loyalty to the source material doesn’t seem to be a top priority here (Olimar didn’t even bother to shave his beard) and the plot is paper thin, but the spirit of cooperation that lies at the heart of the Pikmin series is definitely present....

Sony is not going to tolerate drops below 60fps for PlayStation VR

Good While you can debate the merits of framerate until the cows come home (read: it’s fine for some games, not fine for others), for VR, the situation is a little different. As many VR companies have noted, you basically need 60fps at an absolute minimum to provide a comfortable experience. Sony is on this train too, asGamasutra notesthat at GDC this week, the publisher stated, “Frame rate is really important; you cannot drop below 60 frames per second, ever....
