Hack, slash, meditate Songbringer‘s brand of adventure seems larger than life. It’s a trippy sci-fi journey across a randomly generated planet where secrets and meditative enlightenment are almost as common as combat and screen transitions. According to publisher Double Eleven Games and sole developer Nathanael Weiss, players will be able to embark onSongbringer‘s intergalactic journey when it releases early next month. It’ll land on PC and Xbox One on September 1, with the PS4 version to follow on September 5....

POUR ONE OUT Shakedown: Hawaiiis currently available for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, andPlayStation Vita, and now it’s coming to another quasi-legacy handheld: the 3DS. Developer Vblank sort of has athingfor supporting systems when no one else will (Retro City Rampagefamously was released on WiiWare near the end of its life), and the 3DS is no exception. Despite Nintendo not actively developing games for it (that we know of, as of this E3) and nearly no one releasing major new games for it the past few monthsoutside of Atlus, Vblank is gearing up for a 3DS launch on September 19 in North America, and September 26 in Europe....

Show me ya moves Prior to launch,Square Enix streamed a special promotional cut ofFinal Fantasy XVwhich ended in a boss fight versus Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda. Game director Hajime Tabata confirmed in a stream that it will be available as DLC at some point. I wonder if he will get an English voice over. If so, who could you imagine doing it? For comical reasons I would enjoy Wallace Shawn or Richard White....

Help him out with a quest in Neon, and you’ll unlock the Overdesigned mission which has you helping out the folks at Stroud-Eklund with the design of a new spaceship. Depending on what choices you make during the mission, you’ll either be rewarded with theKepler Ror Kepler S spaceship. They’re both great ships, but there is one that has slightly better specs....

TheHarry Potterlicense is still churning out projects; andfresh off of the announcement of a new TV series/reboot isHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions. Yep, it’s just like it sounds (it’s a game about Quidditch), and they’re curiously using theHarry Pottername rather than “Wizarding World,” or going theHogwarts Legacyroute with a standalone title. To that end, we don’t really have much info on what the game entails beyond the act of playing Quidditch in a multiplayer fashion, but there is a call for playtesters (essentially beta signups) now....

And you may be able to trySuicide Squadlater this month during a closed alpha playtest you cannow. The test is, of course, preparingSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguefor its big launch next year. Rocksteady’s next action game was meant to land this last May. It got hitby a massive delay, pushing it to July 18, 2025 (so far)....

Despite being 17 years old, Valve’s classic, personality-laden, multiplayer FPSTeam Fortress 2is still going strong. A community of fans continues to flock to the game in theirtens of thousands, but there’s a major issue with the game at the moment that’s led to a new movement. Over on Imgur, userrandomkeyboardsmashhas posted a link to a petition which is asking Valve – as the publisher and developer – to fixTF2. The post goes on to say that “malicious aimbots” have been a point of contention for “over five years,” and that it’s time to “give the problem the spotlight it needs....

It’s already out on iOS Tengamiis one of those indie games that sells itself solely based on its look. As a pop-up book in motion, it’s definitely one of the best looking games I’ve seen in some time, and it even looks great on a small iOS screen. Earlier this year the game launched on Apple platforms, but a Wii U release was in the cards before a few delays. Now the game is being delayed again, with the developer stating that November is a new target....

I don’t know whether or praise or pity them Dark Souls IIImight not even be out yet, but that’s not stopping people ripping through the game at bollock-shattering speed. Japanese YouTubermuzi_nasuhas zipped through in just 1:23:18 (or 1:29:10 if you account for loading times), whereas TwitcherDistortion2has completed the game in 1:27:45 (or 1:34:05 if you once again include loading). That mightseemworse than the first guy, but Distortion also killed every single optional boss, too....

Technology limited composers to MIDI tunes, so there wasn’t a need to call in more “professional” acts to spruce up your game. ID Software, though, thought differently forQuakein 1996. They wanted the game to be gritty, dark and violent with a soundtrack that packed all those same adjectives....

All the buzz right now is about next week’s E3, but I’ve already started early planning for this fall’s Tokyo Game Show, set to take place September 20-23 in the Makuhari Messe convention center. It’s never too early. The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association has decided on this year’s theme: “Connecting Your Smiles Through Games.” Theyneverdisappoint with the goofy themes.
