The exciting games and interactive experiences on display at PLAY18

Spying on people, holding hands and shredding books Last week, I once again attended the annual PLAY festival in Hamburg, Germany. Alongside workshops and informative talks, the event included an exhibition of recent and unreleased experimental games and installations. As you would expect, propaganda, fascism, and intrusion into the private sphere were topics addressed by many of the games on show, but some were more whimsical and fantastical. As at PLAY17 with the memorable“match as controller” game, games that don’t use a standard controller were out in full force....

The latest Assassin’s Creed Unity patch is a meager, tiny 40GB on Xbox One

Luckily, there’s a work-around The fourthAssassin’s Creed Unitypatch released yesterday, and Xbox One users found that it was substantially larger than advertised. The update, which was meant to be 6.7GB, clocks in at 40GB on the Microsoft console. The only thing getting assassinated around here anytime soon is your hard drive. Ubisoft addressed the issue on theAssassin’s Creedsite, stating that the update is unintentionally replacing the entire game rather than just the areas that the patch targets for users that have previously applied the third patch....

The wages of video game sin

This follow-up to theSeven Deadly Sins of Gamingarticle from a few weeks back asks a much more serious question: how effectively can video games, as a medium, affect the player’s actions with a real sense of consequence and weight? Can video games make us feel the wages of our virtual sin? Hit the jump for pure, unbridled pretention! Which is somewhat less pretentious now that I have acknowledged it! Why should games make us feel the wages of sin?...

Watch the Battlefield 1 livestream right here

Following the EA press conference Now that the EA press conference is over, they’ve segued directly into aBattlefield 1livestream. After dropping that amazing trailer at the end of their stream, I could not be more excited! World War I is a weird-ass war, and it will no doubt make for a fantastic game. So many wildly different theaters of war! I thought the conference was pretty free of cringe-worthy moments, but holy crap the beginning promo for the stream, featuring I guess “Neebs Gaming,” is one of the worst things I have ever seen....
