‘GENESIS 5 is officially partnered with Nintendo America’
Genesis has been aSuper Smash Bros. eSports staple since 2009. It kicked off in the San Francisco area every few years (2009, 2011, 2013) before taking a massive hiatus, only to return in 2017 and announce dates for 2018.
This year things are really looking up. The tournament organizers over at Genesis have announced that this year, they’re officially partnering up with Nintendo of America as a sanctioned event. Nintendo has had a cagey history with eSports, but with pushes forSplatoonand evenARMS, they’ve lightened up a little (the same goes for streaming and the like with their Nintendo partner program).
Just like last year 2018’s tourney will be held in San Jose, California, and will featureSmash 64, Melee, andSmashWii U alongside of six other games.
