How many types of SAM Ores are there?
InSatisfactory1.0, SAM Ores appear in three rarities:
Pure SAM Ore gives you the best yield, while Impure gives you the worst, so always try to find Pure SAM Ores when you can. Prioritize Normal SAM Ore above Impure Sam Ore, as well.

Grass Fields

Northern Forest
There are only two SAM Ores to find in the Northern Forest region. The location marked in green signifies a Pure SAM Ore location, so you must opt for that as the yield will be a lot more than the Impure one in red.

How to use SAM Ores in Satisfactory?
SAM Ores are useless in their native state and you’ll have to convert them to Reanimated SAM at your Constructor or Crafting Bench first.
You’ll need 4 SAM Ore for each Reanimated SAM. Then you’ll need to convert this into SAM Fluctuators, which areused to craft Portals and Converters. You’ll need 10 Reanimated SAM to unlock SAM Fluctuators, and then you’ll need the following to craft one SAM Fluctuator:
