I was a bit too old when thePokémoncartoons started rolling out so they don’t hold a truly cherished spot in my heart, but for any kid (and kids at heart) growing up in the 90s we’ve gota bit of sad news. Takeshi Shudo, the chief writer for thePokémonanime passed away at the age of 61. He suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Shudo was also the creator of the anime classicMagical Princess Minky Momoand worked onMartian Successor NadesicoandLegend of the Galactic Heroes. I’m not familiar with these so I can’t really comment, but it sounds like he had a pretty prolific life in anime.
I seriously doubt anyone thought that much about the writing while watching an episode ofPokémon, but for an entire generation of children this man’s writing was something they experienced on a weekly, if not daily, basis. The stories he created made one of the most popular shows in the world and that has to be saying something.
Got any favorite episodes you want to share with us?
