Nintendo doesn’t much care to do anything withMetroidsave for soccer games, so here’s a professional gradeMetroidproduction,The Sky Calls. I was a bit dismissive of this for about as long as it took to see those excellent title cards and appreciate the post-processing put into capturing the 70’s sci-fi vibe that I love.
The description notes, “2001,Alien, andSolaris” as influences and it shows, eschewing modern, sterile sci-fi for a style, “more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.”
Jessica Chobot — more like Ridleyssica Chozo, am I right! — stars as the titular Metroid, Sam Balcomb directs. Really impressive effort.
