On the surface,DropsyandScreencheatdon’t appear to have a lot in common, but there are more than a few threads that tie the two together.Dropsycreator Jay Tholen sited this interview between “America’s favorite Dad” Mr. Rogers and Joan Rivers as one of the inspirations for his character, whileScreencheatco-creator Nicholas McDonnell sited playingHalowith his Dad as one of the experiences that fueled the development of his game. So in a way, we have Dads to thank for both games.

They also both rely on the player to fill in a lot of the blanks for themselves, and in doing so, both generate a tension that leaves us just off balance enough to make us laugh. WhileScreencheatencourages the player to create a picture in their mind of the physical space they occupy in-game,Dropsyallows us to do the same with emotional space by means of a farting, hugging, twerking, wrongfully maligned clown.
