Terrariahas come a long way since its 2011 release asbasicallyMinecraftbut 2D. But has it become modern enough to support crossplay? Can you play cross-platform?
No. Well, yes, but only technically. Probably not in the way you were hoping for.
I’m going to guess where this question is coming from and jump straight to that answer before I get more detailed. ForTerraria, consoles and PCs don’t intermingle. If you’re on PC, you may’t play with an Xbox Series X|S player. If you’re on Switch, you can’t play with someone on PS4. If you’re on WiiU, you can’t play with someone on Xbox 360. And so on and so forth. There is no crossplay in that sense.
If that’s what you were hoping for, then it gets worse. The only actual cross-platform play when it comes toTerrariais betweenAndroid and iOS. Also, if you’re in the same console family, like PS4 and PS5, that still works. Just not PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This may change in the future. Crossplay is planned for when the PC and console versions reach parity. Since, as of writing this, they are already basically there, crossplay could be coming this year (2024). According to Re-Logic, they “expect it will be a post-1.4.5 addition.” So, if you’re a PC player and want to playTerrariawith your console buddies; just hang in there a bit longer.
