Thank goodness
I’m not sure how many of you thought thatSuper Mario 3D Worldsignaled the end of theGalaxysub-franchise, but Miyamoto has seen fit to put a stop to any rumors that may be milling about out there. Inthe latest Iwata asks, Miyamoto states, “Just so there is no misunderstanding, I should point out that this doesn’t mean we’ll never make anotherSuper Mario Galaxygame.”
Rumors may have started due to the fact theGalaxyteam is handling3D World, but Miyamoto says this is a simple matter of logistics, stating, “The same team can’t make both at the same time. And we can’t bring in a second party and slap the nameSuper Mario Galaxyon it. I suppose we could idealistically make both in Tokyo, but we want to do something new too, so there was that dilemma.
Good for him, too, for not sacrificing the quality of the series by “slapping the name on it.”Mario Galaxy 2is my favoriteMariogame of all time, so I’m extremely grateful that we’ll return to that formula at some point. To find out whereSuper Mario 3D Worldranks on that list, you’ll have to wait until November 22nd.
The interview itselfis really worth reading for anyMariofan, especially the parts where Miyamoto thought theGalaxyseries was “too blue” and “more geared towards boys,” so they adapted by making3D Worldbrighter with a wider variety of colors, and added Peach as a playable character.
