Fans of hero shooterMarvel Rivalshave turned their attention fully towards season two of the game, as season one is winding down its final weeks.

The first official season of the game, after an introductory season zero at launch, began in January and has rolled on for the past several months with the Fantastic Four as additions. But with a little more than two weeks left in season one, whatever comes next in season two is next on everyone’s minds.

The discussion in aMarch 26 Reddit threadwas meant to be centered around what kind of balance changes players wanted to see for heroes who need nerfs or buffs when season two rolls around, but it was quickly hijacked by players who are more concerned with one huge part of the game: matchmaking in Competitive mode.

SeveralMarvel Rivalsplayers in the thread agreed that the game desperately needs placement matches to help decide where a player is ranked when a new season begins, which it did have during the game’s beta tests. Without them, players think that the ranks and matchmaking in Competitive mode are eschewed one way or the other.

“Need to improve matchmaking as a whole,” the top commentersaid. “Far too many lopsided games. I’m only in platinum but that’s been my experience.” They were not alone in this assessment, and I’d have to also agree.Marvel Rivalsfeels like a bit of a coin flip in Competitive, whether you will steam roll the opposition, or be the one who gets steam rolled, and many think that placement matches could alleviate this problem.

“This is the biggest change I’m hoping for,” another gameragreed. “I don’t care if Bucky and Hela are running lobbies as long as they beat me fair and square in a balanced match.”

However, it may not be placement matches that’s the issue or the fix. Players have been very vocal about the issue with smurfs trouncing lower ranks, and an issue with how you get way more rank points for wins than you lose points in losses, and this is creating a problem where players aren’t ranked where they’re supposed to be.

“I strongly believe the matchmaking itself is fine,” one detractorposted. “The problem is rank inflation, there are too many people in GM that got there simply by spamming 500 games with 45 percent winrate and people who got there in less than 50 games with 65 percent winrate and there are such a big skill gap between these two types of players, that’swhat is making the game quality so terrible.”

There’s a long wishlist of changes that players would like to see inMarvel Rivalsfor season two, but an adjustment to how Competitive mode works is definitely near the top of the list. Hopefully, NetEase will address these concerns and more ahead of the launch of the new season on April 11.
