Deus (N)Ex(t)

[Update: Well, the internet has forced Square’s hand. The official Deus Ex Twitter accountjust sent this out.]

Information regarding the next game in theDeus Exfranchise — subtitledMankind Divided— has been obtained by a Russian gaming website, corroborated bya subsequent cover revealfrom Game Informer. The game will be something of a sequel toHuman Revolution— Adam Jensen returns as the protagonist, but none ofHuman Revolution’sfour endings will be canonical. Unless this information is inaccurate orDeus Expublisher Square Enix has another trick up its sleeve,Mankind Dividedis likely the game Square is teasing over onits Twitch channel. Currently, the game is set for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

According tokanobu.ru, the site that originally ran the story, the game will be in the vein of its predecessors, with a variety of ways to approach combat encounters. “The choice offers two styles of play: ‘quiet’ passage and open battle.” Despite bringing backHuman Revolutionprotagonist Adam Jensen and being set in the wake of that game’s events,Mankind Dividedwill not offer save imports for returning characters. “Developers do not plan to migrate from a previous save of the series —Human Revolutionplayers will not have consequences, and none of the four endingsHuman Revolutionwill not be canonical.”

Mankind Dividedwill also introduce gameplay improvements, such as reworked AI. “Enemies travel in groups and if they suspect something is wrong, [they’ll] summon colleagues together to explore the dark corners. No more single dummy,” wrote Kanobu. Wow, no more single dummy? Guess I can’t play. Game Informer also claims the boss encounters will be improved.
