It was going to happen eventually

The PlayStation Vita has finally been cracked into like a big ol’ nut, and homebrew is on the way.

Usermode Vita Loader iscurrently in the works(viaNeoGAF) thanks to developer Yifan Lu. Based on a recently discovered exploit, only a few lines of code have been written so far, and further developers are being sought to get it done.

One developer hasalready expressed fearsthat the PS Vita will now become a hotbed of piracy, butYifan Lu promiseshis exploit can’t be used to run “backups” of games. Nevertheless, news of such exploits are usually the beginning of nefarious activity which, to be honest,Sonyhasbeen inviting.

Whether it opens the door for pirates or not, homebrew itself is in demand with savvy PS Vita users, whether it’s for the purpose of bringing much-needed extra functionality to the system, or simply loading custom services that do things more efficiently than Sony’s archaic proprietary nonsense.
