We’re quickly hurtling toward a future where every major publisher has its own PC launcher. EA, Xbox, Activision-Blizzard, Ubisoft, Bethesda — scratch that first sentence; we’re basically already there. It’s time to add one more to the list.

Rockstar has reworked and rebranded Social Club on PC so that it’s now the Rockstar Games Launcher. Originally a launcher that was dedicated solely toGrand Theft Auto V, it has been expanded to include a lot more of Rockstar’s library that has made its way to PC. This new launcher supports cloud saves, automatic updates, two-step verification, and a shop.

Rockstar is dangling some goodies as incentive for downloading and installing the launcher. For a limited time, anyone who gets the launcher will haveGrand Theft Auto: San Andreaspermanently added to their library.

The prevailing theory seems to be that this is a preemptive step before Rockstar unveilsRed Dead Redemption 2on PC. It makes perfect sense. That port will sell well enough that Rockstar doesn’t need to give 30 percent away to Steam or 12 percent away to Epic. But, this is also just the way major publishers are trending, so it’s reasonable for Rockstar to finally have its own dedicated launcher. Two birds, one stone probably.
