When I first heard that Marvelous Entertainment, Japanese publisher ofMuramasa(one of my favorite 2D brawlers) was working on a2D brawler for the 3DS, I was psyched. In the months that followed, that excitement has turned into annoyance. Since first announcingSenran Kagura, the game’s developers have told us about the game’s storyline, its characters, itscharacters’ underwear sizes, pretty mucheverythingabout the game, except for how it plays. The annoyance continues.

There was a recent press event for the game in Japan, where aSenran Kagura-themed energy drink, soundtrack CD, manga series, life size cardboard standies, and special ringtone were all announced. They also showed off the new trailer for the game, which includes some awesome stuff (like thatwhite haired, one-eyed school girljuggling a truck on top of an umbrella, and a weird cloud rabbit flying at full speed next to a happy lady) but still, NO GAMEPLAY. Instead, they announced some non-gameplay related details about the game, like 180 unlockable costumes, ways that those costumes might fall off, and a special contest for fans to vote on some sexy in-game actions to be included in the final build of the game. Then a group of young women dressed in school girl outfits sort-of pretended to be the stars of the game, after announcing their various cup sizes on stage. They also danced around a bit.

Do you think Marvelous continues to promote this game with everythingbutinformation pertaining to how the game plays because the game secretly sucks, or is it that they just don’t think gameplay is much of a selling point in these days?
